It’d be a huge lie if I were write that back, nearly forty years ago, as I stood in Sultan Ahmet Square in Istanbul, I was of a similar mindset as the hippies or most of the young people who, in those famous sixties, wandered aimlessly between the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia. Flower power, turbulent and charged with a one-of-a-kind energy, had only grazed me; at the time, completey different movies were playing in my head. If, in that now faraway year of 1973, I had visited (and maybe I did, but I just don’t remember) the famous Pudding Shop, I certainly would have only stopped in for a pudding, indifferent to anything else the shop had to offer. But it wasn’t pudding that put this bizarre little hole-in-the-wall on the map and made it an icon of a time that has long since passed.
